Illuminating the Beauty of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Assisi

The inauguration of the new lighting at the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli in Assisi marks another step in our long and meaningful collaboration with this place rich in spirituality and cultural value.

Following the damage caused by the 2016 earthquake, we provided new lighting fixtures as an upgrade to those with traditional light sources already installed in 2000. The intervention, led by engineer Andrea Ronconi, renewed the system with high color rendering LED solutions, improving energy efficiency, visual comfort, and artistic enhancement, as well as introducing a smart lighting system that allows the lighting scenario to be adapted to different uses.

The side chapels are illuminated by dimmable projectors with differentiated optics, while the central nave is bathed in a balanced light, both direct and indirect, thanks to lighting fixtures hidden above the cornice. A special touch was added to the vault, where small LED projectors evoke the effect of a starry sky, honoring the Franciscan tradition.

Our CEO, Cristiano Venturini, attended the inauguration and press conference held on March 25.

It is an honor for iGuzzini to once again be called upon to illuminate a place of such deep spirituality and cultural value as the Basilica of Santa Maria degli Angeli,” said Cristiano Venturini. “Light is not just a functional element, but a language that preserves and enhances the deeper meanings of a sacred place, passing them on for future generations. For us, it is primarily a tool to improve people's lives. I wish all visitors of the Sanctuary that this new lighting can help create an atmosphere of welcome and reflection, so that everyone can fully experience their spiritual journey or be inspired by the artistic beauty of this extraordinary heritage.”
