Bruno Gecchelin was born in Milan in 1939. After graduating in architecture at the Polytechnic in Milan in 1962, he researched and designed gas hobs and compact refrigerators for major industrial groups. Between 1960 and 1977, he worked for Olivetti where he developed integrated systems for offices, teleprinters and typewriters. In 1974 he opened his own professional firm in Milan where he designed a series of car accessories for automobiles, air conditioning product lines, furniture, upholstered items and modern kitchen accessory lines. His career included homeware accessories and car display concepts. He also designed bathroom interiors with thermoset accessories and fittings and kitchen sinks in the same material. He even designed a practical, modular, integrated system for the Japanese market, as well as various lines of domestic and industrial air conditioning elements. During his career, his passion for technology led him to specialise in the design of luminaires which included the technical lighting part too. In a career stretching for over forty years, he has designed over a hundred luminaires, alternating between decorative models and technical office products for lighting commercial, museum and domestic contexts. Bruno Gecchelin has received numerous international awards, including the BIO Lubiana, the IF product design award in Hannover and three Compasso d'oro awards. He currently lives and works in Milan with his children, with whom he continues to win prestigious awards, like his last Compasso d’Oro in 2004. Since 1996 he has focused on painting and drawing on canvas and paper with mixed techniques.
